2001 Inaugural Retreat Attendees
The Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID) and the cosponsors of this meeting acknowledge the need to recruit and train future academicians in dermatology. The SID instituted the Resident Retreat for Future Academicians in 2001 in an attempt to attract and retain young physicians in physician-scientist, physician/health services research and teaching careers. Residents, post doctoral fellows and faculty meet to discuss advantages of careers in research and teaching, as well as funding opportunities and opportunities for advancement in academic careers.
The PhD Retreat for young investigators debuted in 2012. The competition for funding in the current environment requires creative, collaborative proposals. A major goal of the PhD Retreat is to facilitate multidisciplinary interaction between PhDs and Dermatology residents early on in their careers. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with Basic, Clinical and Translational skin biology researchers to discuss the advantages of careers in research and opportunities for establishing and maintaining a successful research career.
